How to make money as a wedding photography assistant

This article explains how to make money as a wedding photography assistant or wedding photographer’s assistant, which is someone who assists wedding photographers at weddings as a way of making money, usually by arranging people for the group photographs and ensuring that the bride looks her best for the wedding photos.

During my career as a wedding photographer I’ve employed quite a few wedding photography assistants at various times.

A way of making money that is above the minimum wage

They like the idea of making money for doing what is a pretty pleasant job, and it can also be quite well-paid.
I pay them quite a lot more than the minimum wage, but they’re worth it, they have certain qualities that are essential in wedding photography.

The major qualities required to make money as a wedding photography assistant

Here are the major qualities that you will have to have to be a wedding photography assistant. You will have to be clean, well-groomed, and smartly dressed.
You will have to be pleasant and able to communicate easily but politely with people you have not met before – the people at the wedding.
You will have to be able to check the list of people who are to be in each wedding photograph and get them together for their group wedding photograph, and you’ll have to do it quickly but very, very, courteously.
Time is precious during wedding photography photo shoots – the wedding photographer only has a certain amount of time to take his photos.
If something isn’t quite right with the bride’s wedding dress or if something isn’t quite right with the way it has been arranged for her photograph, or if her hair or makeup isn’t quite right, it will be your job to make it right.
For these reasons, I usually prefer to hire a female wedding photography assistant.
